The Cheshire Table Tennis Team
The Nussbaum Foundation generously sponsored table tennis equipment, leading to the formation of the Cheshire Table Tennis Team on 3 August 2018. This initiative was instrumental in providing residents with an opportunity to engage in sports and showcase their talents.
The team received coaching from two esteemed individuals: Mervin Philander and Rosabelle Riese, who is well-known in the community for her achievements as a Olympian Para Table Tennis player. Her experience and motivational approach have been invaluable to the team. To broaden their competitive experience, the Cheshire Table Tennis Team joined the Stephanian Table Tennis Club. This affiliation has enabled them to participate in various national events, allowing them to compete at higher levels and gain valuable exposure.
Our residents, Graham George and Clint Davids, continued to excel at the sport. The Cape Town Table Tennis Club (CTTT), previously Western Province Table Tennis, elected Graham and Clint to participate in the Para Delegation to SATTB National Table Tennis Championships 7-11 August 2019, in Bloemfontein. They returned after a long road trip victorious with gold and silver medals. Results can be found on our Facebook Page.
The Players are looking forward to the 2024 SA National Championship which will be held from 22-28 Sept 2024, at the Brixton Multipurpose Centre, Mayfair West, Johannesburg.
The journey of the Cheshire Table Tennis Team exemplifies the power of sport to bring people together and foster a supportive community. Through dedicated coaching, regular practice, and active participation in competitions, the team has not only honed their skills but also brought joy and pride to the residents of Turfhall.
