We opened our doors on 10 November 1984 and are a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation (014-845 NPO & PBO 930025578) situated in the Western Cape, South Africa. We provide permanent accommodation and specialised care to 60 severely disabled adults, as well as accommodation to 3 disabled adults who live independent lives in our Garden Cottages.<\/p>\n

Turfhall Cheshire Home<\/a> is a pivotal organisation under the umbrella of Cheshire Homes South Africa (CHSA) and affiliated to Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance<\/a>. Initially conceived in response to the pressing need for disability services in South Africa, the CHSA began after a UK visitor recognised the dire lack of facilities for disabled individuals during their holiday in Durban. This realization sparked the establishment of the first Cheshire Home in Queensburgh in 1968.<\/p>\n

In South Africa we have 16 homes \u2013 each responsible for their own management and fundraising. We receive a quarterly grant from the Department of Social Development and each resident contributes 75% of their monthly disability grant towards their accommodation & care.<\/p>\n

In South Africa we have 45 independent living units and 16 residential homes of which the Turfhall Cheshire Home is one of 3 in the Western Cape. [History] [Cheshire Homes Western Cape]<\/a><\/p>\n

Our mission is to assist people with disabilities throughout the world, regardless of their colour, race or creed, by providing the conditions necessary for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being.<\/p>\n

We believe that each person, whatever his or her disability, is a uniquely valuable individual and that people with disabilities should have the personal freedom to pursue their aspirations and take their own place in the world.<\/p>\n
